AstroPhysics

Our space is so vast and limitless that our modern science could not explore it all.But still there are some really amazing facts about our universe .Some of them are as under.

1. Cold Welding
Cold Welding is the name of the fact in which if two pieces of metal without any coating touch each other in the space, they would stick together. But this thing does not happen on earth because of oxidized layer of material between the surfaces. For more details go through this Wikipedia article on Cold Welding.

2. Extra Moons
A common belief is that our earth has more than one moon. Many people would find it astonishingly unbelievable but it is true.Going back to 1986,Duncan Waldron found an asteroid in elliptic orbit around the sun with a revolution period like Earth. So both earth and that planetoid appear to be following each other. This was named as Cruithne. And this unusual bounding of these two led the scientists to the conclusion that it is Earth’s second moon.Same objects of this type were spotted to be following other planets in our solar system.
3. Lightweight
Saturnis so low and lightweight in its density that if we put it in water,it would float, literally.
4. Constantly Moving
The milky way is constantly moving in the space at a rate of 225km per second.Similarly the galaxy is rotating at the rate of 305km.This means that we are moving at a total speed of 530km.And that is so fast that in 1 minute,we are 1900km from where we were. That is really amazing.

5. Moon is leaving
Another really amazing fact is that with each year, the moon moves about 3.8cm away from earth. It is the result of the tidal effects. And our earth is slowing down in rotation by 0.002 seconds per day per century. There might be one day in future when there would be no moon visible from earth.

6. Ancient Light
The light of Sun and all the other stars that we see today in the sky is actually 30 thousand years old.Our space is so vast and big that this light spend most of its time in passing through the dense atoms to reach the earth.

7. Solar Diet
The Sun loses up to a billion kg’s per second because of the solar winds that are always ejecting from the surface of the Sun.The energy of the sun is so furious that it can easily kill anyone at the distance of 160km.

8. Big Dipper
Many people think that the big dipper that we see in the sky is a constellation. The fact is that it is not.It is an  asterism. Big dipper is made up of the 7 bright stars in the Ursa Major constellation.

9. Uranus
The original name of the Uranus was the George’s Star.It was discovered by Sir Williams Herschel in1781.It was the era of George 111,and was also named after him.
10. Sunspot Music
Antonio Stradivari was an Italian and a great violin maker in the 17th and 18th century. His violins were so good and musical that scientist came to this conclusion that it was the result of the timber used then.Because from 15 to 1800,the earth underwent a  little ice age. This climatic change effected the types of trees he used to utilize. So he started using hard timber and the result turned out so well for him. This picture above is made of three overlapping photos. It shows the rings in the spruce tree used to make the most famous Stradivarius violin, the “Messiah.” The first row of numbers gives the width of each ring in millimeters (one mm is about the thickness of a fingernail). The bottom row gives the years in which each ring grew.
